kayak fishing louisiana
Kayak fishing question?

I live in Louisiana and am getting a kayak. I will be fishing in the marsh for redfish and trout. What are some things that I need on my kayak to have a more successful fishing trip?

check kayakfishing.com and look at the pictures of rigged kayaks for some really good examples of what you can do. Pretty much people add rod holders, anchor cleat & anchor, sticker ruler to measure fish (for legal size fish, if that matters for what you are fishing for). I installed a fishfinder as well. there are lots of things you can do, just depends how addicted you get.

What is the site lay-out at the Fishing Bridge RV park at Yellowstone?

I’m in an RV and would like to know what spaces at the Fishing Bridge RV park are the best.

You can’t specify a parking spot at Fishing Bridge. You won’t be disappointed in any of them. They are all very level and wide/long enough to accommodate an RV. We went in 2002 and it was great. There is a little diner down the way that the campers would walk to… very good and very friendly. There is a natural bridge area located a couple of miles away. Neat if you can see it. It was closed due to bear mating when we were there. At the campground we saw several coyotes and a snow shoe rabbit. Some of the other campers we spoke to saw a bear.

Any Suggestions?

So far, I have been surfing since the beginning of this summer at least 6 days a week. Right now I have an NSP 6’4 Fish and I’m planning on getting a wetsuit so I can surf through the winter too. (I surf at Wrightsville Beach, NC). (I’m about 5’6 and weigh 120lbs)

I’m going to save up for a “real” board (shortboard) for next summer and I just want suggestions for brands or board models that would be good, etc.

-I know that I should go to a surf shop (don’t worry, i will! ) but I’m at home right now and I want a lot of answers. Right now I’m looking at Channel Islands, Rusty, and …Lost, but I want as many suggestions as possible

Thanx

Those are three great manufacturers you named (and by the way, congratulations on moving up the a ‘real’ surf board), but there are some good local shapers in NC.

I have three Allisons, two are ‘off the rack” boards (a long board and a fun board) and one is a custom twin fin fish. They are super designs, look great and ride great.

I have an Action ‘Rocket Fish’? that I bought used about ten years ago and I had a great time on it. I’d still ride it if I hadn’t picked up the Allison fish last year. I bought it from another old timer who had it custom made. He bought a new Action for himself, and that was a great board also.

If you are going to save up your $$$ and you a fairly comfortable with what type of board you are looking (ride your buddies’ sticks, and see what ou like about different designs/shapes) a custom board is well worth the investment, unless you are at an age where you anticipate a lot of growth. You don’t want to get stuck with a nice custom board that is right for you at 120 lbs, but is worthless when you are 6’2″ 190.

Good luck. I have been surfing since ’66, and had dozens of boards, and I have been really pleased with both Action and Allison.
