Something Different – By Chadsey’s Cairns Winery
If you get tired of fishing, Prince Edward County has unique offerings. One of the first Winery/Vineyards to be established in Prince Edward County is
By Chadsey’s Cairns Winery. Here is what they have to offer:
We like to think that our place offers something unique for visitors…not only good wine but a great ambiance that allows people a glimpse into the
“old” county among our heritage barns, apple house tasting room, and pioneer cemetary in a storied farm setting overlooking Lake Ontario, where fruit has been grown for 200 years.
It is an ideal place to picnic, even in inclement weather, and we often have art exhibits featuring artists from the county and from away. We think it is
exactly the kind of experience that those who choose the intimacy of B and B’s or cottages rather than large hotels would especially enjoy. It is a
child-friendly location and we also serve and sell a wine-grape juice “Gesundheit” that has no alcohol or added sugars. We are also capable of
receiving people in either English or French.
In 2003, we were the first winery to offer 100% County grown fine wines commercially, and we have built our winery slowly, a labour of love, to the
point where the small batches of wines that we grow on our 20 acres (100 cases to 350 cases each) are all that we sell whether at the wine store or
to fine restaurants from Ottawa to Toronto. We also do free home delivery of our wines within that region.
Last year (2009) we held a concert in the barn, in conformance with municipal contraints, as a “private party” to which people on our email lists were
invited. This year we have three concerts planned and would like to add our accomodation partners to the list of potential participants. Everyone needs a break from the sometimes stressful routine of a tourist host. Just let us know which you would like to attend and we will reserve seating for you.
There is no admission charge, but we do pass the hat to try to provide remuneration for the performers (with a full house contributions of $15-$20 can provide them with a contribution that approximates their usual fees). We would also be willing to include guests of yours that might be here on concert weekends. There is room for about 150 and last year’s concert was full, so you would need to phone and confirm that spaces were available. We are still exploring the possibility of combining an interesting food experience with each performance.
On June 19, 2010 at 2pm, Ariana Gillis, voted best new Canadian Folk Artist, in 2009, will be performing.
On July 24, 2010 at 2pm, Lily Frost, a wonderful singer-songwriter, whose Lily Swings CD is one of my personal favorites and who is releasing a new cd this
June, will be here.
On August 20 at 7pm it will be Colin Linden, Grammy-nominated blues guitarist, singer-song writer, producer.
From May 1st we will be open seven days a week from 11am to 6pm until the end of October.
We are participating in Terroir on May 29th at the Crystal Palace and on the Sunday will probably do something special here at the winery (more about that closer to the date).
